Cooking Caboose Club

Successful "Cooking Caboose Club Classes" held at Lees Market!
Westport Elementary Students & the After School Express Train!
Our homework helpers helped connect with 42 Westport Elementary Students by having some hands-on fun in the kitchen. We put together an after school program for young learners geared to the basic skills taught at the elementary school level.
The one-hour sessions focused on such skills as math, reading, writing and comprehension. Children learned how to read and write recipes, learn to shop by price, add up the cost of items, practice the value of money, add/ subtract to make change, follow simple directions, measure ingredients, prepare a quick recipe and time the entire process.
Traditional kids cooking classes make for a great experience, but “munching with a mission” was a different approach to captivate their imaginations while learning outside of the classroom.
These classes were for first, second, third, and fourth graders as classes were conducted over a 6 week period.
