Water and Energy Conservation
Did You Know?
If every United States household installed a Water Sense labeled faucet or faucet aerator tip, it could save more than sixty billion gallons of water annually. A faucet Areator will conserve water and will save you money with your utility bills while paying for its cost in a few months.
Installing high-efficiency toilets can save a family of four about $1000.00 dollars over the next ten years. The EPA’s new Water Sense labeled toilets use only 1.3 gallons of water per flush which is twenty percent less that the current standard and sixty percent less than the toilets made in 1992.
If every United States home replaced the five most used light fixtures with Energy Star models, it would prevent greenhouse gases equal to the emissions of nearly 10 million automobiles. These fixtures use three fourths lees energy and actual give light that is more efficient. Imagine saving an average of $30.00 over the life of one light bulb?
The above information is from the U.S. Environmental Agency.
Sailshades:
Susan Mohl Powers conducted a series of free workshops in teaching homeowners how to make their own affordable Sailshades. This great product has been produced in Fall River for the last 28 years and can save as much as 30% of the year’s heating costs. The design of these shades is for normal size windows and can be constructed with an insulator called Reflectix used in the traditional Sailshade. All the materials can actually be purchased locally and constructed in your home.
Sailshade Studios in Fall River, Massachusetts occupies 3200 square feet in an 1860 granite mill. It has been her studio since 1991. Located at 425 Pleasant Street, Building#14 in the Durfee Union Mills, visitors are always welcome by appointment or by chance. Be prepared to climb stairs to the fifth floor.
