    Ingredients

    • 1 tbsp butter, melted
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1 tsp baking powder
    • 1 tsp almond extract
    • 1 cup confectioners sugar
    • 1/2 tsp almond extract
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 1 1/2 cup flour, all purpose
    • 2 tbsp cherry juice (reserved from maraschino cherries)
    • 2 eggs, large
    • 1 ( 10 oz ) jar maraschino cherries
    • 3 tbsp cherry juice (reserved from maraschino cherries)
    • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/3 cup butter, melted

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9 x 5 loaf pan.
    2. Mix 1/3 cup melted butter, granulated sugar, 3 tbsp cherry juice, eggs, 1/2 tsp almond extract and milk together.
    3. In another bowl, mix flour baking powder, salt and nuts together. Slowly add to wet ingredients just until well combined. By hand, mix in drained cherries, reserving juice to use in glaze.
    4. Pour in loaf pan and bake at 350 for 55 to 60 minutes.
    5. Remove from pan and cool completely on wire rack.
    6. To make glaze, whisk together 2 tbsp cherry juice, 1 tbsp melted butter, confectioners sugar and 1 tsp almond extract. Pour on top of cooled bread.
